Knose Pet Insurance review
Three reimbursement options, an Australian-built brand with the highest average ProductReview rating in our directory (4.7), and a comprehensive PDS that pulls no punches on exclusions. The full picture.
The short version
Knose is one of the few AU pet insurance brands that's actually been built in Australia (most are white-labels of larger underwriters' products). The brand launched in 2019, distributed by Knose Financial Services Pty Ltd — which holds its own AFSL and now distributes Petsy and Pet Circle Insurance too.
The underwriter changed from Allied World to Pacific International on 1 March 2023. Pacific International has since accumulated four other AU pet brands (RSPCA, Pet Circle, PetsOnMe, Fetch) — Knose was the first.
Product spec is solid: $25,000 annual benefit limit, three reimbursement options (70/80/90%), and an exceptional 4.7-star ProductReview average across 692 reviews — the highest average in our directory. Excess options are limited ($0 or $100 only), and behavioural cover appears more restricted than competitors. Worth checking the current PDS if behavioural conditions are a concern.
Score breakdown
v1.1 of the Insu Score weights four components. Knose scores well on the dimensions covered; affordability is pending until our premium estimator launches.
Solid $25k annual limit (mid-pack vs RSPCA's $35k and BWM's $20k) and three flexible reimbursement options (70/80/90%). Loses points on limited excess flexibility ($0 or $100 only — no higher-excess tiers for premium reduction) and behavioural cover restrictions.
Quote sampled 28 April 2026 came in at $70.87/month — but at the LOWER $7,500 annual limit / 70% reimbursement tier (vs the $15k / 80% benchmark). Not directly comparable to BWM/PIA samples. Awaiting a benchmark-equivalent re-quote before scoring.
APRA-authorised underwriter (Pacific International). AU-built brand with own AFSL (Knose Financial Services). Loses points for the 2023 underwriter change (Allied World → Pacific International) and shorter brand operating history (~5 years vs 20+ for BWM).
4.7 stars across 692 ProductReview ratings — the highest average rating in our directory. Lower review volume than BWM (3,193) or RSPCA (8,239 historical), but the consistency is exceptional. Customer feedback emphasises fast claims processing and responsive support.
Knose's 49/100 partial reflects strong customer experience and trust signals, but middle-of-pack coverage breadth. Affordability is captured at a non-comparable lower coverage tier ($7,500 limit / 70% reimbursement vs the $15k / 80% benchmark) and excluded from the headline score until a benchmark-equivalent quote is available. Coverage features audit (current PDS)
The 8 features feeding the Coverage Depth score, with the actual values from the current Knose Product Disclosure Statement (dated 2024-11-15).
| Feature | Knose value | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Annual benefit limit | Up to $25,000 (mid-pack vs RSPCA $35k, BWM $20k) | 7 / 8 |
| Reimbursement % | 70% / 80% / 90% — three flexible options | 6 / 8 |
| Excess flexibility | Limited: $0 or $100 only. No higher-excess tiers for premium reduction. | 2 / 5 |
| Dental cover | Dental Illness covered as core (subject to PDS sub-limits + waiting periods). | 3 / 5 |
| Behavioural cover | Behavioural Conditions defined in PDS — likely sub-limited or partially excluded. Verify in current PDS for specific cover. | 2 / 5 |
| Alternative therapy cover | Alternative Therapies covered subject to PDS sub-limits and vet recommendation requirements. | 3 / 5 |
| Routine care add-on | Routine Care add-on available at additional premium per current PDS. | 3 / 5 |
| Bilateral condition flexibility | Standard restriction. Bilateral Conditions: pre-existing on one side excludes the other. | 1 / 5 |
| Pre-existing condition review | Pre-existing Symptoms-based exclusion model. Review path exists for some condition types per PDS — less generous than RSPCA's explicit Temporary Condition framework. | 2 / 4 |

What we liked
- Highest average ProductReview rating in our directory — 4.7 stars across 692 reviews (BWM 4.5, RSPCA 4.5)
- Three reimbursement % options (70/80/90) — flexible without being overwhelming
- AU-built brand with its own AFSL — not a white-label of a foreign or unrelated parent
- Customer feedback consistently mentions fast claims processing and responsive support
- Knose Financial Services has expanded to distribute Petsy and Pet Circle Insurance — strong distributor stability
What to think about
- Excess options are unusually limited ($0 or $100 only) — competitors offer $200/$500/$1000 tiers for premium reduction
- Behavioural cover appears more restricted than RSPCA or PetSure-family brands — verify in current PDS if relevant for your pet
- Underwriter changed in 2023 (Allied World → Pacific International) — newer customers are on a different product than 2019-2022 customers
- Pre-existing condition review process less explicitly documented than RSPCA's Temporary Condition framework
- Lower review volume (692 vs BWM 3,193) — high average but smaller sample
Same underwriter as 4 other AU brands
Knose is underwritten by Pacific International Insurance. Pacific International also underwrites:
Same underwriter doesn't mean identical product — pricing, benefit tiers, and add-ons vary by brand. But your claim is paid by the same company regardless of which logo is on the policy. More on the Pacific International family → (coming soon)
Affordability — coming soon
The Insu premium estimator is being built using a combination of PDS-published rate tables and manual benchmark quote sampling. Once it launches, this section will show:
- Knose's premium for the standard 3-year-old Labrador Sydney 2000 benchmark
- Where that premium sits in the percentile ranking across all 19 AU pet insurers
- Variations for older pets, regional postcodes, and cat scenarios
In the interim, the most accurate way to get a real Knose quote is direct from their site (no obligation, no signup required for the quote itself).
