About me
I run Insu as an independent consumer-information publisher. I am not a licensed financial adviser, an actuary, or an insurance broker. I am an editor and researcher whose role is to read each brand's Product Disclosure Statement carefully, capture real quote pricing where I can, map the underwriter relationships that determine who actually pays your claim, and present the result in a form that's easier to compare than the source documents themselves.
Insu started after I tried to compare AU pet insurance brands myself and discovered that most consumer-facing comparison sites (Canstar, Finder, Choice) publish stale underwriter information and don't surface PDS sub-limits or pre-existing condition pathways at all. The goal here is to do the comparison work openly, with every claim citable back to a primary source — the PDS, the regulator, or the brand itself.
Editorial standards
Every brand fact cites a primary source
Coverage features, sub-limits, reimbursement options, excess tiers, and waiting periods are taken from each brand's current Product Disclosure Statement, downloaded directly from the brand's own site and held in our review archive. PDS read dates appear on every insurer review. Underwriter and AFSL data is verified against the ASIC AFSL register and APRA general insurance authorisations. Customer satisfaction figures cite ProductReview.com.au directly with the rating and review count visible at audit date. Industry-level loss ratios reference the APRA General Insurance Quarterly Statistical Bulletin. Per-underwriter complaint counts cite the AFCA Complaints by Firm dashboard.
The Insu Score is calculated openly
Every brand's score uses the same v1.1 formula: Coverage 45% + Affordability 30% + Trust 15% + Customer Experience 10%. Sub-component weights, data inputs, and scoring methodology are published in full on the Insu Score methodology page, including version history and explicit notes on what the score doesn't tell you. Scoring inputs are visible on every review page. We mark a score "partial" when the Affordability component lacks a real captured quote at the standard $15,000 / 80% / $200 benchmark, rather than estimate.
What this site does not do
- It does not provide personal financial advice. Recommendations are general information based on PDS data and our published methodology, not formed against your specific circumstances.
- It does not replace reading your brand's current Product Disclosure Statement before purchasing. PDS revisions move sub-limits, waiting periods, and exclusions between document versions.
- It does not advocate for any specific brand. Where a brand has both strengths and weaknesses, both are surfaced — Petsy's high customer satisfaction sits alongside its high $/cover figure; Coles' headline cover sits alongside its 2.2★ ProductReview rating.
Updates and corrections
Insurer reviews are re-audited when the brand publishes a new PDS, when the underwriter changes, or at minimum every 6 months. Premium quote samples are refreshed at least quarterly. The "PDS read", "reviews captured", and "underwriter verified" dates appear on each review page. If you find a factual error or believe a recommendation is out of date, please email me — corrections are made promptly and noted on the page.
Funding and conflicts of interest
Insu has no paid relationships with insurers that influence the rankings. The Insu Score is calculated identically for affiliate and non-affiliate brands. We disclose every commercial relationship on every page that contains an affiliate link, and the affiliate-disclosure card on each review names which network and which advertiser(s) we earn from.
As of May 2026:
- Awin AU — approved publisher (publisher ID 2871773). Active advertiser: Knose Pet Insurance.
- Commission Factory — application declined April 2026. Pending reapplication once site has more established traffic.
- No direct commercial relationships with any other reviewed brand.
Future revenue is expected from advertising (Google AdSense), the affiliate networks above, and possibly direct partnerships with brands subject to the editorial-independence rule above. Any new relationship will be disclosed on the relevant pages within one publishing cycle of taking effect.
Verifiable identity
The most direct way to verify the editorial identity behind this site is the email address above. A reply to a corrections request — with full email headers and the publisher signature — is direct contact with the editor. I respond to general enquiries within two business days; page-specific corrections and source-verification questions usually get same-day or next-day replies.
I do not maintain a public LinkedIn or other social profile. Email is the verification channel, and is the same channel that handles enquiries across the broader publisher network — Insu is part of the same editorial group as DecisionLab, GPScout, ProviderScout, Lighthouses, and other Australian directory and comparison sites. The Person schema on this page intentionally omits a sameAs field rather than linking a profile that does not exist.
